We all need something to help us unwind after a long day of work. For some, it’s working out. Others relax with a good book or movie. Others want to enjoy an adult beverage at a good neighborhood spot. If you’re one of the latter, here are some of our favorite places to unwind in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood.
Violet Hour has been one of Chicago’s most popular spots for artisanal cocktails since it opened in 2007. The stylist bar might be tricky to find, but it’s always a good choice for those looking for a speakeasy-type atmosphere combined with awesome drinks and small plate food options.
Violet Hour is at 1520 North Damen in Wicker Park. Check out their web site at theviolethour.com.
If you want to check out some live music, Subterranean is the place to be. They have live music nearly every night. Their downstairs venue hosts smaller shows by local and national artists. Larger shows are held in the second and third floor venue. There are bars on every floor as well.
Check out Subterranean’s upcoming concert calendar at Subt.net.
If you want a more laid back vibe, try Bordel. The Spanish speakeasy setting and creative cocktails are a great way to loosen up after a stressful day. Bordel also hosts live music four days a week.
Bordel is located at 1721 W Division Street, across the street from Assemble’s new Wicker Park location. Learn more about them at bordelchicago.com.
If you really want to let loose and hit the dance floor, Debonair Social Club is your spot. The club occupies two levels of the Flat Iron Building in Wicker Park. Both floors include bar and food service, seated lounges and DJ booths. There are themed nights periodically as well, including cabaret nights and 80s dance parties.
Debonair Social Club is located at 1575 North Milwaukeee Avenue, Chicago. Check out their web site at www.debonairsocialclub.com.
Is a traditional English or Irish pub more your style? If so, try Bangers & Lace. Their food menu features a modern take on traditional English and German food. Their extensive drink menu features many whiskeys, ciders and craft beers. It’s a great place to stop at with coworkers to relax after a busy day.
Banges & Lace is located at 1670 West Division Street, just a block away from Assemble’s Wicker Park location. Check out their web site at www.bangersandlacechicago.com.
